The 451 Group Client Event: London

On June 27th from 9am to 5pm at The Landmark Hotel, the day before our 2011 Hosting and Cloud Transformation Summit, The 451 Group will hold a full afternoon of informative presentations exclusively for 451 Group/Tier 1 Research clients followed by a networking reception. This client event has been specifically designed to underscore the inherent value received from a subscription to The 451 Group services and attendance is at no charge to our clients.  Attendees of this client event can expect to hear presentations from 451 Group analysts around critical trends and innovations associated with today's IT landscape.

The shift towards movements such as cloud computing demands a rethink in many areas of technology and infrastructure management. During the afternoon session, we will discuss aspects of IT services infrastructure that don’t always get the attention they deserve: new data management techniques, the struggle to keep control over the exploding amount of unstructured data, and new thinking in the datacentre about how to cope with energy and space constraints in the face of ever growing demand.  After the formal client event sessions, we will end the afternoon with a guest speaker, a preview of the following day’s Hosting and Cloud Transformation Summit – Europe and a networking reception – all exclusive to 451 Group/Tier 1 Research clients. The schedule for the day follows.

Session 1:  Information Risk Management- Because What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You

Nick Patience

The 451 Group- Research Director, Information Management

For many organisations, contemplating the mass of unstructured information that resides within their four walls (and beyond) is a journey into the unknown, full of opportunities and risks. In this presentation we will look at why organisations need to embark on this journey and what lies ahead for those that do.

Session 2: Total Data - What Data Management Can Learn From Total Football

Matt Aslett
The 451 Group- Senior Analyst, Enterprise Software

The increasing volume and variety of data, combined with a greater understanding about its potential value, is increasing the pressure on businesses to make the most of their available data. The 451 Group has created the concept of "Total Data" to explain how organizations are employing new data management technologies and approaches to ensure that they turn the data deluge into more accurate and efficient business intelligence.

Session 3: Brawny or Wimpy? Will Low-Powered CPUs Change the Datacenter?

John Abbott
The 451 Group- Founder/Chief Analyst

The pressures of server sprawl and power consumption are a huge issue for the new generation of “hyperscale” datacenter operators looking to host global cloud services, Internet applications and social networking. Many are already using custom-built x86 servers stripped down to their essential features – but these are inefficient and a nightmare to manage. So a new breed of micro servers is emerging, many using power efficient chips originally developed for phones, laptops and tablets. Are they up to the job, and how soon might we see real deployments?

4:20 - 4:40pm Cloud- From the User Perspective

Guest Speaker

Steve O'Connor
PICT- Director of Technology

Users are driving the requirements to move to cloud services yet they often have a wide perception of what cloud means. Many are aware of the services provided by Amazon, others associate the term with the ability to work remotely. Internal IT departments need to provide clearer guidance on how they are supporting the change in users requirements through the use of cloud technologies, and how they will change the way employees work in the future and where an ICT Department fits in this future. Steve O’Connor of Parliamentary Information and Communications Technology (PICT) is at the forefront of thinking in this area: PICT provides ICT to the members of both Houses of Parliament, a user group who demand the flexibility and agility the cloud can provide.
